Adaptive (MKL) matches the full color correlation of the reference — best for most albedo / diffuse / photo / AI textures. Simple is the lighter mean/std pass. Exact forces the full histogram (strongest, but can be harsh on noisy maps). Do not use any of these on normal, roughness, metallic, height or AO maps.
